Love your newsletter Michelle. I am an esthetician and I am 100 percent with you on LRP and recommend it as my favorite tinted and non-tinted. But for a glowy and lovely to use product I would also add Ilia Serum Tint 40 to the list. It is vegan, comes in many shades, is cosmetically elegant and loaded with good stuff- niacinimide, hyaluronic and squlane.

thanks for the reco! You know, I've tried the Ilia and thought of it more as a skin tint and missed the SPF part for some reason. It's a good reminder for me to try it again!

I am an older gentleman, and have been trying a few things to slow down the appallingly quick metamorphosis of what seems to be reflected from the mirror lately. I've come to the use of glycerin soap to blunt the mirror image reflection a bit. It seems to really work, better than other things I've tried. What I wonder is why there is such a slim selection of glycerin soaps from which to choose. Certainly, if it works for me, then it should work for others, and be quite a bit better than the non-glycerin soaps that seem to amplify aging.

Is there a hidden downside to the glycerin that I don't know about (yet) ?!

Glycerin soap is great. I think the reason there aren't that many out there is that there are some classic ones that basically own the market (Pears, Neutrogena) and are super affordable so there's not much else that another brand could add to it! That being said, cleansing is a great step, but having a good moisturizer and sunscreen is also ideal for mature skin!

We are an active family that is fortunate enough to have relatives in the Virgin Islands. I would love a recommendation on an effective mineral sunscreen for outdoors that is reef safe! We currently use ThinkBaby because it’s oily which makes it easier to apply but it leave somewhat of a white cast and is impossible to use on my husbands face as he has facial hair. Thank you!

For daily use, the La Roche Posay Anthelios tinted mineral sunscreen I mention in this story is reef-safe according to their web site. It wears really nicely. You could also try the Avene Mineral Sunscreen which is reef safe and the texture is fluid (in case you don't want tinted). Water resistant up to 80 mins.

Hi Michelle! I would love a post on treating Melasma. I love the Musely peel and spot cream, but I’m overwhelmed with how to build a routine around it as my main concern. Like vitamin c (l ascot ice or derivatives?), niacinamide, tranemexic, kojic, alpha Arbutin, which combo to use? Retinol?? Peels??? Skin cycling??? How much is too much and what is enough haha.

Hope you saw the new post today about dark spots and melasma! It’s not exhaustive tho and I will totally cover skin cycling and the other things you mentioned more soon!

oh yes! I did the peel before starting anything else. It's amazing. Had great results. When I saw people during the actual peeling stage, I had to apologize for my appearance though haha

I just recently started using La Roche Posay Anthelios and I have to agree with you - I love it! I had been using a chemical sunscreen and was constantly having watery eyes. I finally put two and two together and realized it was one of the ingredients that was the culprit. Haven’t had an issue since I started using LRP (yay!). Plus, my late 50s Asian skin actually looks good enough to not have to wear foundation every day. I’m so happy with it.

Oh yay! I'm so glad you're loving it too. As much as LRP has been a beauty favorite for many years, I feel like it's become oddly underrated these days because there are sooooo many new sunscreens. I'm glad that people are still finding it! My only issue with tinted sunscreen is it's a bit dangerous when I wear white or light colored clothing. So I'll use a different sunscreen on my neck on those days.
